Here at +10 to Fire Resist we believe games should be inclusive and accessible for all. We look for diverse stories and characters, diverse studios and publishers, diverse critics and entertainers, and most of all, a diverse playerbase who loves games of all kinds. It makes perfect sense, then, that we would want to help an incredible organization like SpecialEffect as they work to make gaming accessible for people with disabilities.
SpecialEffect is a UK-based organization that works to match people with the equipment they need to play games. By offering free assessments and loaning equipment, SpecialEffect aims to help people find the best possible solution for their particular needs. They’ll even help out if your needs change over time!
Games are a medium that allow people from all over the world and all walks of life to experience rich new worlds and meet new friends. It is my belief, and I hope yours as well, that physical ability shouldn’t get in the way of these experiences. Accessibility is an often overlooked concern when it comes to games and how they play, but by supporting organizations like SpecialEffect, we can ensure all people get to enjoy the joy and magic that comes from this incredible industry.
So how can you help? It’s simple really: join us for GameBlast17 beginning at 6 pm CST on Saturday the 25th of February while the +10 to Fire Resist team and our friends take part in a 24-hour livestream to raise money for this fantastic organization! We’ll be playing games with our viewers, telling silly stories, talking about the importance of accessibility in games, and even taking part in various ridiculous challenges when we meet specific donation goals! SpecialEffect provides their services at no cost and it’s only through donations by people like you that they can continue to operate. If you’re not in a place to give right now, that’s perfectly fine! You can always help out by spreading the word and the link to our team’s JustGiving page.
See you soon! ♥
Note: Programming schedule and challenge specifics TBD. Be sure to follow us on our various socials to see these details as they’re announced!
