The first rule of time travel is that you should never time travel. Ever. Things always end up all wonky and little Kevin from the year 2043 can certainly attest to that. Despite being told by his father not to enter the lab and mess around with experiments, Kevin did so anyway and unless he can think quickly, world history may be about to change forever as a result! In this week’s quirky, whimsical Kickstarter game you play as Kevin as he goes back in time to inspire some of the greatest minds in history. Inspire Me is a point-and-click adventure game with a fun art style and the opportunity to make history fun.
What I love the most about Inspire Me is that it’s a game about history that can appeal to people of all ages. It’s not some dark, gritty tale about time travel where half of the people die and the other half have their lives ruined forever, instead it’s lighthearted and a bit silly. The art style reflects this perfectly with its cartoony appearance and exaggerated heads.
As a point-and-click puzzle game there isn’t too much to say about the gameplay itself. Inspire Me is less about mastering mechanics and techniques and more about the adventure and puzzles. At launch the game will come with three levels: Newton, Beethoven, and Da Vinci. As Kevin you must inspire these three men by ensuring Newton’s head can be conked by the apple, finding just the right note to finish Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, and by getting that darn Mona Lisa to let slip that famous smile.
Their stretch goals add in even more levels including Shakespeare, Nikola Tesla, Einstein, Elvis and even Steve Jobs!
Inspire Me’s Kickstarter campaign can be found here. They are looking to raise $20,000 by May 20th. It’s been awhile but you know the drill! Drop them a donation if you are able to, and spread the word! We tend to cover a lot of darker, more serious games on this website, so when one as cheerful and fun as this comes along it makes for an excellent change of pace!
